Under the Central Universities Act 2009, the Central University of Kerala, India was founded in the year 2009. The University started its operation with the goal of preperaing students to have a succesful career ahead of them witht their intellect. This university first opened its doors to indian students in October 2009. Initially there were only 17 students enrolled in posgraduate programs and the university decided to open its first campus at Nayanmarmoola (Vidyanagar) in Kasaragod city. Currently it is a renowned Central university in Kerala.
Currently it has become an institution with over 2500 students enrolled in 27 postgraduate and 22 research programs. The campus of Central University, is currently located in Periye, Kasaragod. The university campus was built on 310 acres of property which was given by Government of Kerala for the construction of the university. It is currently also known as one of the largest central universities with the campus size being 658,400 square feet.
